Standing with the Pack: Highway Wolf Highlights Wolf Sanctuary of PA
San Francisco, CA, September 15, 2025… Highway Wolf’s Howling for a Cause series continues this month with a spotlight on Wolf Sanctuary of PA, a nonprofit refuge in Lancaster County that has been protecting gray wolves and wolf-dogs since 1980. Founded by the Darlington family, the sanctuary is home to more than 50 residents who are given a safe, dignified place to live out their lives. With a mission rooted in care and respect, the organization provides proper nutrition, medical treatment, enrichment, and an environment where wolves and wolf-dogs can thrive.
Education is also central to the sanctuary’s work. Through guided tours and community events, Wolf Sanctuary of PA helps visitors understand the important role wolves play in the ecosystem while challenging the myths that have long surrounded them. On October 18, the sanctuary will host Wolf Awareness Day, a celebration featuring live music, vendors, family-friendly activities, and the opportunity to meet the Wolves of Speedwell. Supporters are encouraged to get involved through symbolic adoptions, memberships, donations, or volunteer opportunities.
“We are so grateful for the work Highway Wolf is doing to advocate for wolves and support nonprofits like us whose mission is to care for them,” shares Wolf Sanctuary of PA. “Wolves and wolfdogs are often misunderstood and misrepresented. We are so grateful for this spotlight feature, as it will help us continue in our mission of not only providing the best life for the wolves and wolfdogs in our care, but also help us to continue to advocate on their behalf to ensure that our visitors come away with a better understanding of their true nature.”

“Wolf Sanctuary of PA represents the heart of rescue, where compassion, education, and community come together to give these amazing animals a second chance,” says Mick Hellman. “Their work reminds us that protecting wolves starts with understanding them. It’s about building trust, nurturing connection, and creating space for both wolves and people to thrive.” Highway Wolf invites music fans and wildlife advocates to support Wolf Sanctuary of PA by getting involved, spreading the word, or contributing directly to their mission.
