About

Welcome to the adventures of Highway Wolf, a unique musical project led by Mick Hellman and his creative partners, Tal Morris and Amber Morris, who create a sonic experience through a collection of reimagined classics and original music. Highway Wolf offers a transformational journey, relatable to anyone challenged by The Call of the Wild and all that comes with answering The Call. The songs are of the human experience, and through the howling and longing of the Highway Wolf, listeners come to understand these stories through another lens.

Highway Wolf’s debut EP, Purdie’s Dream, showcases songs selected for their emotional depth and resonance, each one inspiring Mick to “howl at the moon.” Recorded at Laughing Tiger Studio in San Rafael, CA, the project was produced by Tal Morris and Amber Morris, engineered by Ari Rios and Erin Tadega, mixed by Alan Hertz of HzWorkz, and mastered by Patricia Sullivan of Bernie Grundman Mastering. Featuring a vibrant cast of Bay Area musicians drawn from Mick’s circle of friends and family, the album captures the spirit of collaboration and community.

The Highway Wolf universe expands beyond music with the release of its debut comic book, a high-octane fusion of sound, mythology, and adventure. Co-authored by Mick Hellman and Amber Morris, and brought to life with illustrations by Nate Gomez, the first issue launches readers into a world where rebellion collides with the untamed wild. This comic marks the beginning of an evolving creative vision in which music, art, and story converge.

Highway Wolf also channels its energy into purpose with the Howling With A Cause series, spotlighting sanctuaries and nonprofits dedicated to preserving both the wolf species and the wilderness they embody. The group highlights the vital importance of these organizations in safeguarding not only wolves but the very essence of our wilderness. Through their newsletter, “The Paw Print”, the group is dedicated to sharing the stories of their partnered organizations, amplifying their impact, and rallying support for their noble cause.

The journey continues with Highway Wolf’s upcoming EP, Lone, Never Alone. Expanding on their signature reimagined classics, this release introduces the project’s first original song. Recorded at Calliope West, San Rafael, CA, the project was produced by Tal Morris and Amber Morris with Mick Hellman as the executive producer. The record was engineered and mixed by Karl Derfler, along with engineers Sean Beresford and Erin Tadena, and mastered by Brian Lucey. Featuring a vibrant cast of Bay Area musicians drawn from Mick’s circle of friends and family, the album continues the legacy started with Purdie’s Dream. The full product will be delivered in early 2026.
