Highway Wolf Highlights Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary’s Lifelong Commitment to Wolves and Wolfdogs

San Francisco, CA, June 10, 2025… Highway Wolf is proud to spotlight the work of Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary, a nonprofit based in Navasota, Texas, that has been providing safe haven for non-releasable wolves and wolfdogs since 2002. Led by Mick Hellman and creative partners Tal Morris and Amber Morris, the Highway Wolf team is recognizing the sanctuary’s efforts to not only care for rescued animals, but to educate the public about the complex realities these animals face in captivity.

Every resident at Saint Francis comes from a challenging past. Whether they arrived from shelters, private owners, or abusive situations, they all share one thing in common: they can’t return to the wild. The team at Saint Francis ensures these animals receive expert care, proper nutrition, enrichment, and the space to live in companionship with others of their kind. Equally important is the sanctuary’s public outreach. Through guided tours and educational programs, Saint Francis challenges the misconceptions around wolves and wolfdogs and raises awareness about why they should not be kept as pets.

Saint Francis’ Executive Director shares, "The best way to make a difference in the world is by speaking to the heart, and art is the heart's language. To take the deepest experience of the soul and its connection with the world around us and proclaim it in a way that provokes thought and reflection is no easy task, but this project undertakes that goal with grace and beauty. Every song carries the howl of the wolf in its notes."

“Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary is doing the kind of grounded, essential work that too often goes unnoticed,” says Mick Hellman. “They’re not only giving these animals a better life, they’re changing the way people think about them. That’s the kind of work we stand behind.” Highway Wolf invites music fans and wildlife advocates to support Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary by visiting the sanctuary or donating directly to their conservation efforts.
